Privacy policy

Effective date: 2 October 2026

This policy describes how the Pistalp app for Android handles your data.

  • Location. Pistalp uses your precise location while the recording screen is open and while a ski day is being recorded. You start and stop a recording yourself, and the phone shows a notification while it runs. The location is provided by your phone’s location services, including Google Play services.
  • Your ski days. The routes, statistics and other data the app records, and your settings, are stored on your phone.
  • Photos. A photo you pick for a shared sticker is used to create that sticker.

To show maps and to find lifts, slopes, resorts and places, the app sends requests to these services:

  • OpenFreeMap - the map
  • Amazon Web Services - terrain shading on the map
  • Overpass API (overpass-api.de and its public mirrors) - lifts, slopes and resorts from OpenStreetMap
  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) - the place search

These requests include your location or the area shown on the map, and, like any request on the internet, your IP address and technical information about the app and the device. Each service handles this data under its own privacy policy.

Pistalp is distributed through Google Play. When the app asks you to rate it, it may use Google Play’s in-app review. Google Play provides the developer with statistics and crash reports about the app. Google handles this data under its privacy policy.

Your data leaves your phone in other ways only when you choose to: when you export it, share a day with another app or send the developer an email. When you move to a new phone, Android’s own transfer may copy the app’s data to it.

When you write to the developer, the developer receives your email address, your message and any technical details you leave in it. Emails are used to answer you and to improve the app, based on the developer’s legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), and are deleted when no longer needed.

Data stored on your phone stays there until you delete it in the app, reset the app in Settings, or uninstall it.

The app uses encrypted connections (HTTPS) to the services it connects to.

This policy may change as the app changes. Changes are published on this page with a new effective date.

For questions about your data, or to exercise your rights under the GDPR, write to the developer at support@pistalp.com. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.
